Bunker supplier Delta Energy introduces carbon offsetting in ARA and UK

marine fuel supplier delta energy has introduced a carbon credit counter and can now offer customers carbon offsetting Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp hub.

Delta supports the growing ESG requirements of shipowners and cargo charters by offsetting the emissions from its inland vessels ERA and the United Kingdom, according to an email statement. The company, in close partnership with energy companies numerobuys VERRA and gold standard CO2 credits on a monthly basis equal to the emissions generated by the MGO used by their barges.

“These credits are generated from a range of global projects that not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also provide social, economic and health benefits to some of the poorest areas of the planet,” the company said.

When bunkering Delta Energy ships, shipowners and charterers can be sure that they are delivered CO2-neutral and can offset the resulting greenhouse gas emissions through their own bunker purchase. The company not only offers its customers CO2-neutral ship deliveries, but also compensation payments for their bunker purchases or the cargo their ships transport.

“This is a critical step in Delta Corp’s development as a responsible business committed to minimizing our carbon footprint and that of our customers,” Mudit PaliwalCEO of parent company Delta Energy Delta Corpsaid in the statement.

“We are seeing increased interest from shipowners and charterers looking to undertake carbon neutral voyages and bunker purchases and this is an additional service for our customers.”

Carbon offsets are increasingly viewed by the shipping industry as a way to achieve near-term decarbonization progress, while uncertainty remains about the regulatory and economic environment for the longer-term options to switch to alternative fuels. The certification of purchased offsets will become an increasingly important issue as this market segment grows.

“Delta Energy is striving for alternative fuels,” the company said.

“Offsets are tools to start meeting carbon reduction goals while implementing a long-term plan that can be used alongside other technologies, even when traveling with a blend of bio-fuel and heating oil to reduce the remaining carbon. “
