The newest: The International Committee of the Red Cross will make another attempt on Saturday to evacuate civilians from the war-torn port city of Mariupol after Friday’s effort stalled due to “impossible” conditions. Around 100,000 people remain trapped in Mariupol, according to Kyiv. Meanwhile, online peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv were held on Friday, after a fire at a fuel depot in a Russian border town that the Kremlin attributed to a Ukrainian strike.
The fight: Almost five weeks after their invasion, Russian forces continue to conduct sporadic strikes on civilian targets in a number of Ukrainian cities. Russia is accused of war crimes.
The weapons: Ukraine uses weapons such as Javelin anti-tank missiles and Switchblade “kamikaze” drones provided by the United States and other allies. Russia has used a variety of weapons against Ukraine, some of which have drawn the attention and concern of analysts.
In Russia: Putin has blocked the flow of information inside Russia, where the war is not even called a war. The last independent newsletter in Russia ceased operations on Monday.
